Tis The Season

It's that time of year when Christmas songs are the main tunes on the radio. There is one song that has been in the top spot since it's release in 1993. Any guesses? Well, if you guessed Mariah Carrey's All I want for Christmas song, then you were right. Right now, 87% of people voted this song as the top Christmas song. Surprisingly, newer artists, such as Justin Beiber, can't even compete. There is a new app on Facebook called Slacker Radio that allows you to play this hit at anytime on your profile. And it's all at the click of a button. Over a decade has passed, and Mariah is still hitting the high notes and is high on the charts.

Who Are The Top 10 Artists?

1. Adele
2. Rihanna
3. Katy Perry
4. Lady Gaga
5. Lil Wayne
6. Bruno Mars
7. Nicki Minaj
8. Taylor Swift
9. Justin Beiber
10. Chris Brown

Adele currently holds the number one spot on the charts. The 20 year-old artist wrote her first album based on heartbreak from a previous relationship. Who knew that such pain could sound so beautiful?

Go on, Talk That Talk

Artists usually like to leave the fans in suspense about the tracks on an upcoming album. But as we all know, Rihanna is unlike any other artist. Rihanna posted the track-list of her newest album Talk That Talk. Even though she didn't list them in the right sequence, she allowed her fans to have a personal view of what to expect on the sixth album. Her Album was even a trending topic on Twitter, #TTT, the day the album dropped. I heard some of the tracks, and well, Rihanna sure can Talk That Talk because she delivered. I'm pretty sure her fans agree.

Social Costumes

Firebellymarketing.com gives great suggestions for Halloween costumes that relate directly to our everyday lives.

Wear all red with a "1" attached to your stomach and you've got yourself a Facebook notification costume.

Simply write the word "WINNING" on a T-shirt and you can be the infamous Charlie Sheen; he took over twitter with this one word! You can even print out a picture of his face.

Have any unique ideas? Send them to my email and I'll upload them for the world to see:

Master of the Craft

D.A. Wallach was one of the first few thousand people to use Facebook, and he's been a user of social media ever since.

Wallach's band, Chester French, was discovered at Harvard University by music legends Pharrell Williams and Kanye West.

Since then, the band has prospered. Recently, Wallach has toured with the Lady Gaga, Blink 182, and Weezer.

As an early user of Facebook, Wallach says that social media has been beneficial because it gives musicians a way to be in direct contact with their fans.

Wallach is still a user of Facebook, and has over 1 million followers on Twitter. Wallach continues to utilize social media as a way to notify fans about Chester French, as well as his friends' music.

One of the first to use social media to promote music, Wallach is truly a master of the craft.

The Underdog is on Top

J Cole is one of Hip Hop's newest artists who came to shake up the game.

J Cole was the first artist signed to JayZ's Roc-Nation in 2009. J Cole released his first album Cole World: Sideline Story on September 27,2011. J Cole has never released an album prior to this one, and never had a song on the charts, yet he has the number one album. How did he did he do it? The fans.

J Cole gained fans from his mix-tapes: The Come Up, The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights.

Although J Cole isn't a big artist, and is still considered an underdog, he reaches out to his fans through social media. Using twitter and his live video chat, Cole promotes his music and release dates to his fans all over the country. J Cole is amiable, and social media allows him to be just a mouse-click away.

May 2011, Cole stated: "All singles done. Album ridiculous. Title Perfect. Music incredible. Thank you for your patience. Let's change the game."
Bravo, J Cole, you've made your mark.

Any objections?

Today, social media is an artist's plea to the charts. Interacting with their fans is their number 1 goal. With social media, artists can tell their fans when to buy their latest album. After all, fans have the most control over an artist's success; they hold the gavel. Social media gives the artist a way to directly hear the fans' points of view, good or bad.
Social Media for breakfast?

Greetings

My name is Melysa. This blog will contain the latest information about social media's involvement in the music industry. I am a college student. Yes, this means that I am trying to achieve my educational goals. But more so, it means that I have been dragged into the cyber world; I am hooked on technology.

I have many social media accounts from Facebook, to Twitter, to Tumblr, all of which have their own uniqueness. My favorite? Twitter; it allows you to feel actively connected to your followers and closer to celebrities.

My target audience are people of my age, fellow cyber-heads, and also people that are interested in the music industry,

To my peers, I hope this keeps you updated with the social media world and educated on the virtual domain.
